The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch, has launched an investigation into the loss of dozens of containers from fully cellular containership EVER SMART (75246gt, built 2006), off Japan.
It is reported that 42 containers were lost over-board from EVER SMART approximately 700 nautical miles East of Japan, on 30th October 2017.
The incident occurred when the vessel was underway from Taipei, Taiwan to the Port of Los Angeles on the U.S. West coast. The Evergreen voyage number is 0898-086E.
The vessel is due to arrive in port next week. On the day of the incident, meteorologists were tracking a powerful hurricane force low-pressure system over the north-western Pacific.
