Date: 19th October 2017    Type: Explosion and Fire  Voyage: Malaysia to Netherlands 

Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel ATLANTIC SYMPHONY (23,342gt, built 2009) suffered and explosion and fire on 19th October.

The vessel, carrying a cargo of coconut oil from Port Klang, was berthed at the Koole Terminal in the Vondelingenplaat industrial area, Rotterdam.

One crew member was reportedly injured as a result and taken to hospital.

A fifty metre flame with accompanying smoke clouds could be seen from as far away as Maas lock, Vlaardingen and Schiedam.

Fire engines, tugs and fire boats were sent to the scene and brought the fire under control. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Another vessel, MANAS, was moored alongside ATLANTIC SYMPHONY. Initially it was not clear on what vessel the explosion had occurred.
