Reports have been received that Greek flag vessel AGIOS NIKOLAS (39,818gt, built 2004) has been taken in tow off South Africa.
The bulker is on a voyage from Santos to Ko Sichang. A Lloyd’s Open Form salvage contract has been signed between Five Oceans Salvage and the vessel’s owners, presumably after a machinery breakdown.
The insurers of the cargo on board are likely to be requested to provide salvage security. It is also likely that General Average will be declared.
