Date: 19th June 2016 Type: Fire Voyage: From Egypt to Poland
Reports have been received that Swiss flag vessel SABINA (5,968gt, built 2000) suffered a fire in her engine room on 19th June 2016.
The general cargo vessel had sailed from Swinoujscie for Szczecin. Previously, before arriving in Poland, she had sailed from Damietta, Egypt on 3rd June.
The fire was brought under control by the vessel’s crew. But the vessel was immobilised for some time and allided with the embankment.
SABINA has now been taken back to port by two tugs. She has on board a cargo of phosphate.
It is possible that General Average will be declared as a result of this incident.
