Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel KAMALA (21,724gt, built 1999) is on fire in the East China Sea.
The containership is on a voyage from Surabaya to Ulsan. She is likely to be carrying cargoes to and from other ports as well.
The crew are fighting the fire with assistance from the Japanese authorities/fire-fighting teams.
The fire reportedly originated in one of the 796 containers on board the vessel.
As a result of this incident it is possible that general average and/or salvage claims could be made against cargo insurers.
