Reports have been received that Panama flag vessels SOUTHERN EXPLORER (88552gt, built 2002) and BEST UNITY (35885gt, built 1997) collided in the Singapore Straits earlier today.
Both bulk carriers are now anchored at Singapore. There are support vessels staying close to the fully loaded SOUTHERN EXLORER. According to reports the vessel appears to be down by the head.
BEST UNITY sailed from Kaohsiung on 6th September 2014. SOUTHERN EXPLORER is understood to be destined for Taiwan having previously called in Mauritius and Brazil.
