Date: 30th July 2014 Type: Water Ingress into Engine Room / General Average Voyage: Far East to US East Coast
Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel RHL FIDELITAS (54,182gt, built 2010) suffered severe water ingress into her engine room on 30th July 2014.
The containership had just completed loading cargoes at Yangshang Container Terminal when the accident occurred.
Part of the cargo has been unloaded and the vessel shifted to an anchorage where repairs to the engine room are underway.
As a result of this incident, the vessel owners have declared General Average. Cargo insurers are being asked to provide average guarantee before the cargoes can be delivered.
The various cargo owners are being contacted by Albatross Adjusters Ltd and asked to arrange general average security.
The vessel is on a voyage from ports in China and South Korea. The cargo is for delivery to various ports on the US East Coast. She is likely to also be carrying transhipment cargoes for other parts of the world.
