*****INITIAL REPORT*****
Reports have been received that UK flag vessel CMA CGM FLORIDA (54309 GT, built 2008) came in contact with bulk carrier CHOU SHAN (91166, built 2005) at the mouth of Yangtze River on 18 March 2013.
CMA CGM FLORIDA is on voyage from the Far East to USA although is likely to have cargoes on board for other regions as well. Two of the vessel’s holds were breached and flooded but the vessel is reportedly stable.
It is reported that CHOU SHAN has also suffered water ingress. She is on voyage from China.
A salvage tug is in attendance. It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board these vessels. It is also possible that General Average will be declared.
