Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel TAI AN (16,582gt built 1985) suffered an engine breakdown yesterday off Philippines.
A search and rescues vessel was sent to the vessel which was unable to manoeuvre in heavy seas. We understand that a salvage tug is now also assisting.
The bulk carrier is carrying a cargo of limestone for Tagbilaran. She sailed from Singapore on 24th February and Iskenderun on 12th January.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
