Reports have been received that Turkish flag vessel ASPENDOS M (6819gt built 1986) suffered an engine failure off Turkey today.
The vessel began to drift towards shallow waters. A tug and technical team were despatched to the scene to render assistance.
ASPENDOS M is a containership that generally trades between ports in Turkey and Libya.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
