Reports have been received that Isle of Man flag vessel BET PRINCE (82,830gt built 1995) suffered a power failure on 1st August whilst the vessel was off Zhenjiang.
Because of poor weather conditions the crew sent a distress signal and rescue vessel DONG HAI JIU 11 proceeded to the scene. The casualty has been towed to Zhoushan.
BET PRINCE sailed from Ponta da Madeira on 13th June 2012. We understand that she is destined for Qingdao.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
