Reports have been received that Singapore flag vessel BARELI (35,881gt built 2004) ran aground yesterday in Fujian Lantau waters.
The vessel has suffered serious hull damage. We understand that her crew have been rescued. Salvage plans for the ship and her cargo are being discussed. BARELI usually trades between ports in Africa and the Far East.
It is likely that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
