Date: 28th February 2012    Type: Grounding    Voyage: Ports in Japan, China, S Korea, Malaysia, Australia

Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel MSC CAROLE (52191gt built 1989) ran aground off Jakarta on 28th February 2012.

Initial attempts to refloat the vessel have failed and the casualty is still aground on a reef. We understand that the cargo will be transferred to vessel BALTIMORE.

MSC CAROLE trades between ports in China, Japan, S Korea, Malaysia and Australia. She is likely to also be carrying transhipment cargo to and from other parts of the world.

It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
