Date: 14th December 2011    Type: Collision    Voyage: World Wide Service and Indonesia to South Korea

Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel HYUNDAI CONFIDENCE (64,845gt built 2003) has been in collision with South Korea flag vessel PACIFIC CARRIER (77,458gt built 1986) off the coast of South Korea.

No injuries or pollutions have been reported but the incident is a serious one. The containership has suffered bow damage whereas PACIFIC CARRIER has suffered heavy damage in way of holds 5 and 6 with water ingress the result.

We understand that the vessels remain locked together at this time. Professional Salvors Nippon Salvage have been employed to try to assist.

HYUNDAI CONFIDENCE is on a voyage from Gwangyang to Busan but will have cargoes on board for various ports around the world. PACIFIC CARRIER is carrying a cargo of coal from Indonesia to Samcheonpo in Korea.

It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargoes on board these two vessels. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
