Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel SEA RAINBOW (22,361gt built 1984) ran aground on the Orinoco River on 11th September.

Several unsuccessful attempts were made by local tugs to refloat the vessel. Eventually, Shanghai Salvage Bureau were contracted and tug DE HONG sent from Trinidad and Tobago.

The bulk carrier, with a cargo of approximately 36,500mt of iron ore on board, was eventually refloated on 14th September.

It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
