Reports have been received that Chinese flag vessel GUAN HE KOU (13,615gt built 1980) was in collision with Marshall Islands flag vessel UNION ERWIN (32,100gt built 2011) on 1st May 2011.
The accident took place off the Chinese coast. As a result, GUAN HE KOU deviated to Xiamen where part cargo was discharged to allow temporary repairs to the ship.
As a result of the incident the owners of GUAN HE KOU have declared General Average. The usual average guarantee are required from cargo insurers.
We already act on behalf of the insurers of part of the cargo on this vessel. We are investigating liability and also the possibility of recovery from the colliding vessel.
