Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel DOVER STRAIT (14241gt built 2002) ran aground off St Lucia towards the end of last month.
Attempts by the crew to refloat the vessel were unsuccessful and professional Salvors were engaged. The vessel remains in the area at this time for surveys. It is not yet clear whether the voyage can continue.
DOVER STRAIT is a containership that trades between ports in the USA East Coast and Caribbean although it is probable that she is also carrying transhipment cargoes for other parts of the world.
As a result of the incident General Average has been declared. Schlimme & Partner have been appointed as Adjusters. Cargo insurers need to provide the usual average guarantees.
