Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel MERAKI (14385gt built 1980) has suffered a power failure today whilst entering the Istanbul Strait.
The bulk carrier is on a voyage from Turkey to Romania. We understand that the vessel has requested assistance and tugs will be sent to the scene.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
