Reports have been received that Cypriot flag vessel NORDLAKE (16202gt built 1994) was in collision with Indian Navy frigate VINDHYAGIRI on 30th January 2011.
The collision took place when the Navy vessel was entering Mumbai. Two cargo vessels nearby, one of which was the NORDLAKE, were crossing each others paths.
When NORDLAKE took evasive action to avoid the other cargo vessel, she collided instead with VINDHYAGIRI.
The Navy vessel suffered sea water ingress as a result and a fire later broke out on board. All on board the Navy vessel, mainly families of Navy personnel, were evacuated.
NORDLAKE is we understand detained in port. She is reported to have sailed Jawaharlal Nehru shortly before the accident, destined for the UAE.
