Reports have been received that Bahamas flag vessel ROSBORG (15992gt built 1978) has been towed into Xiamen by tugs Dong Hai Jiu 113 and Dong Hai Jiu 159.
The bulk carrier, which sailed from Chennai on 24th December, reportedly experienced engine problems in bad weather some 40 miles south of Dongshan Island.
A distress message was sent and emergency vessels sent to the scene. Weather conditions were described as force eight/nine with waves of four to five metres reported.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
