Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel MARE CARIBBEAN (29327gt built 2004) ran aground yesterday on the Mississippi around mile marker 217.
The tanker, which is scheduled to sail to Nassau, was eventually refloated. However, she remains in position at this time because of rudder damage.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
