Information has been received that Liberian flag vessel AQUA LUNA (10396gt built 1992) is reported not under command off the Azores.
Salvage tug MATSAS STAR is proceeding to the scene to render assistance to the vessel. AQUA LUNA has 21 persons on board.
The containership’s last reported port of call was Matadi from where she sailed on 1st August. She is understood to be destined for Kusadasi although it is possible that she will also be carrying transhipment cargoes for ports outside Turkey.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
