Therefore for salvaged cargo, there will be a need to lodge salvage guarantees with Lloyds in London.

The MSC CHITRA (1980 built, 33113 GRT) has collided with the KHALIJIA 3. As a result, the MSC CHITRA has listed heavily and taken in water. In addition several containers are lost overboard (reported to be 200 containers)

Date: 18th July 2010 Type: Water Ingress Voyage: China to India
Reports have been received that St Kitts-Nevis flag vessel KHALIJIA 3 (25525gt built 1985) had to be rescued by the Indian Coast Guard yesterday following serious water ingress into the vessel.
The crew of the bulk carrier, which was on a voyage from China to India with a cargo of steel coils, had to be taken off the ship. The cause of the water ingress is still under investigation.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
As well as this, it is also possible that the vessel’s cargo of steel coils has suffered damage caused by sea water ingress into the vessel’s holds.
