Reports have been received that South Korean flag vessel MELISSA (12233gt built 1999) has suffered an engine failure today on a voyage from Ukraine to Turkey.
The general cargo vessel was attended by two tugs and technical teams. She has now been towed to an Istanbul anchorage where investigations are underway.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
