Reports have been received that Singapore flag vessel PRAMONI (12105gt built 2008) has been hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden. This is the third vessel taken by Somali pirates in less than a week.
The chemical tanker is understood to have been on a voyage from Rotterdam, Antwerp and Genoa destined for Kandla when the pirates struck.
It is likely that a ransom demand will be made shortly. Shipowners commonly claim a proportion of any ransom payment from cargo owners as a general average contribution.
