Reports have been received that British flag vessel ASIAN GLORY (44818gt built 1994) has been hijacked by Somali pirates. This is the fourth vessel taken by Somali pirates in less than a week.
The vehicle carrier is understood to have been on a voyage from Far Eastern ports with a cargo of cars destined for discharge in various ports around the Arabian Gulf/Red Sea area. Dolphin Maritime is acting on behalf of the insurers of several hundred vehicles on board.
It is likely that a ransom demand will be made shortly. Shipowners commonly claim a proportion of any ransom payment from cargo owners as a general average contribution.
