Reports have been received that Maltese flag vessel RAYBEN STAR (4860gt built 1992) is being towed into Casablanca with engine damage.
The general cargo vessel loaded palm kernel shells in Ghana. The cargo is destined for Piombino. It is not yet clear how the cargo will reach its destination.
The Turkish operated vessel is being towed under an LOF salvage contract. Salvors are Smit Salvage in partnership with Beaufort Salvage.
It is likely that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also likely that general average will be declared.
