Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel NAVIOS APOLLON (29499gt built 2000) has been hijacked by Somali pirates north of the Seychelles. This was the second vessel taken by pirates yesterday.
The bulk carrier is understood to have been on a voyage from Tampa to Rozi when the pirates struck. She has a cargo of fertilizer on board.
It is likely that a ransom demand will be made shortly. Shipowners commonly claim a proportion of any ransom payment from cargo owners as a general average contribution.
