Reports have been received that Malaysian flag vessel THAILINE 2 (5555gt built 1991) has been in collision with Japanese flag vessel YAWATA MARU NO.8 (199gt built 1990) off Tokyo.
THAILINE 2 is receiving salvage assistance. It is understood that she has suffered bow damage and is taking on water. YAWATA MARU NO.8 is proceeding to port under her own power.
It is possible that salvage claims will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board THAILINE 2. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
