Reports have been received that Cypriot flag vessel VARAMO (15375gt built 2007) has suffered main engine damage and has been towed into Long Beach, USA, for repair.
The container vessel was on a voyage from the US West Coast destined for Mexico when the problem occurred. Thereafter she was due to carry cargoes to the Far East. The vessel is on charter to Maruba of Argentina. The voyage number is 00911SB.
The engine damage occurred at the beginning of April this year but the vessel is still under repair. The shipowners have now declared general average.
Before any cargo can be carried to destination, the cargo owners and insurers need to provide general average security and copies of the cargo documents need to be sent to the Shipowner’s general average adjusters.
