Reports have been received that Antiguan flag vessel MAGELLAN STAR (6277gt built 2002) has collided with St Vincent flag vessel FORTES (3219gt built 1986).
The incident, which caused serious damage to both vessels, is understood to have taken place off the coast of Sardinia on or around 24th May 2009.
As a result, MEGALLAN STAR was holed just forward of her accommodation and suffered sea water ingress as a result. The other vessel, FORTES, suffered serious damage to her bulbous bow and surrounding areas of her hull.
The owners of the MAGELLAN STAR have declared general average. Cargo owners and underwriters are required to provide security before the cargo can be delivered. It is also possible that some cargo will have suffered damage as a result of the collision.
