The vessel’s crew abandoned the vessel. Thirteen were picked up from the life raft and another, initially thought to be missing, was rescued by a fishing vessel. There are reports that the vessel suffered engine problems relating to fuel supply. And that she was therefore unable to manoeuvre in the heavy seas. MING AN had sailed from Kaohsiung on Tuesday and was destined for Vietnam. Wed,18 Oct 2017 16:16:39 +0200 HARVEST SKY Date: 14th October 2017    Type: Grounding  Voyage: Australia to Taiwan  Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel HARVEST SKY (50,626gt, built 2013) has run aground off Limkou, Taiwan. The bulk carrier, carrying 60,000mt coal from Gladstone, Australia, had discharged part of her cargo when she left the berth because of heavy weather. The vessel then reportedly drifted aground after her rudder or propeller had become entangled a fishing net. We understand that the vessel’s owners have contact Nippon Salvage with a request for assistance. Approximately 19,000mt of cargo remain on board. Mon,16 Oct 2017 14:38:41 +0200 EMERALD STAR Date: 12th October 2017    Type: Sank  Voyage: Indonesia to China  Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel EMERALD STAR (33,205gt, built 2010) sank yesterday in position lat 18 59N, long 124 46E. Fifteen crew members are reported to have been rescued whilst eleven are still missing. Search and rescues operations are underway. The cause of the sinking is not known at this time. The bulk carrier was on a voyage from Buli to Lianyungang. Fri,13 Oct 2017 15:06:45 +0200 EASTERN BUND Date: 4th October 2017    Type: Grounding  Voyage: Brazil to Egypt  Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel EASTERN BUND (64,769gt, built 2011) ran aground yesterday in the Suez Canal following a loss of power. The bulk carrier, on a voyage from Tubarao, suffered water ingress as a result of the incident and has been towed to an anchorage. Thu, 5 Oct 2017 15:07:55 +0200 TINA Date: 13th September 2017    Type: Main Engine Failure  Voyage: From Rio Grande, Brazil  Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel TINA (39,126gt, built 2000) suffered engine failure yesterday off the coast of South Africa. The bulk carrier, which sailed from Rio Grande on 19th August, has been taken in tow by tug PACIFIC DILIGENCE. It is understood she will arrive in Durban, as a port of refuge, on 18th September. This incident may lead to general average and/or salvage claims against the insurers of the cargo on board. Fri,15 Sep 2017 15:49:08 +0200 GOLDEN DESTINY Date: 4th September 2017    Type: Sank  Voyage: Between Indonesian Ports  Reports have been received that Indonesian flag vessel GOLDEN DESTINY (16,963gt, built 2001) sank on 4TH September 2017 off Kumai. The vessel’s crew was rescued. GOLDEN DESTINY had sailed from Belawan on 27th August and was due to call at Balikpapan. Tue, 5 Sep 2017 14:32:55 +0200 MONA Date: 25th August 2017    Type: Sank  Voyage: UAE Ports  Reports have been received that Comoros flag vessel MONA (3,147gt, built 1986) sank on 25th August 2017 whilst berthed at Port Khalid. Three injuries were reported following the incident. The containership, which had arrived in Sharjah the previous day, reportedly developed a list and capsized. MONA traded between various ports in the UAE. She may also have been transhipment cargoes from elsewhere. Tue,29 Aug 2017 13:59:48 +0200 CHEMROAD JOURNEY Date: 11th June 2016    Type: Grounding  Voyage: Saudi Arabia to China  Cayman Islands flag vessel CHEMROAD JOURNEY (20,108gt, built 2009) is at Singapore following completion of the lengthy salvage operation last month. The tanker, carrying several parcels of chemicals (including butyraldehyde, ethylene glycol, ethyl hexanol and ethanol amine) from Jubail to Taiwan and PRC, ran aground on 11th June 2017 around 30 miles from the Vietnamese coast, near Phu Quy Island. The vessel’s hull was breached and she took on a 15 degree list. A complex salvage operation followed, led by Nippon Salvage operating on a Japanese Form Salvage Contract. Around 8,000mt of the cargo had to be taken off the vessel to assist with refloating. The salvage operation was eventually completed on 2nd July 2017. Salvage security was requested at 25% of the cargo value. General Average was also declared and guarantees requested. Tue,29 Aug 2017 13:54:47 +0200 YANGTZE HARMONY Date: 20th August 2017    Type: Water Ingress  Voyage: From China  Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel YANGTZE HARMONY (32,987gt, built 2012) suffered sea water ingress into her engine room whilst she was sailing around 200 miles off Vung Tau on 20th August 2017. The vessel, which had sailed from Shanghai on 15th August 2017, became disabled as a result of the water ingress. Her crew were rescued following intervention of the Vietnamese authorities and another vessel in the area, ALS APOLLO. There is no further news concerning YANGTZE RIVER at this time although, if she can be saved, it is assumed that she will be towed to a port of refuge. Tue,22 Aug 2017 14:05:39 +0200 NAVIOS ORBITER Date: Around 16th July 2017    Type: Mechanical Failure  Voyage: From Lisbon  Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel NAVIOS ORBITER (39,727gt, built 2004) suffered mechanical breakdown earlier this week in the North Atlantic. The bulk carrier, which had sailed from Lisbon on 12th July 2017, required salvage assistance. The vessel’s owners entered into an LOF salvage contract with Tsavliris Salvage.
