The bulk carrier, which had sailed from Lisbon on 12th July 2017, required salvage assistance. The vessel’s owners entered into an LOF salvage contract with Tsavliris Salvage. Before the cargo can be delivered, the Salvors will require security for their claim. It is also likely that General Average will be declared. The tanker is on a voyage from Pot Klang to Mombasa carrying a cargo of vegetable oil. She grounded one week ago and salvage services are being provided. The owners of the vessel have entered into an LOF salvage contract with Tsavliris Salvage. We understand that vessel will be towed to Walvis Bay. RAINBOW HARMONY has on board a cargo of approximately 32,000mt palm kernel expeller loaded in Panjang and destined for Brake. Both vessels, bulk carriers, reportedly suffered serious damage and have anchored off Singapore. GORTYNIA, carrying iron ore, is on a voyage from Saldanha Bay to Singapore. DZ QINGDAO is on a voyage from Tianjin to Port Klang. The bulk carrier is reportedly carrying a cargo of soya bean meal destined for Egypt. A Lloyd’s Open Form salvage contract has been signed with professional salvors T&T Salvage. It is also likely that General Average will be declared. Cargo insurers will we expect be asked to meet Salvage and General Average claims. The bulker has on board a cargo of around 28,000mt of maize and was due to complete loading at Bahia Blanca. The vessel’s owners have signed an LOF salvage contract with Tsavliris Salvage. It is likely that the insurers of the cargo on board will be required to provide salvage security before the cargo can be delivered. It is also likely that general average will be declared. The Shanghai Maritime Search and Rescue Centre reported yesterday that another vessel found and rescued two seamen. They stated that they were from general cargo vessel XIANG ZHOU which was in collision with container vessel VAN MANILA. XIANG ZHOU, carrying steel coils from Nantong to Korea, sank in approximate position lat 31 03.9N, long 122 47.24E. The maritime search and rescue centre sent warning signals and is carrying out further rescue work. A total of six vessels were sent to the scene to fight the fire. No injuries were reported to the 22 crew on board. The full extent of cargo damage is not yet known. MSC DANIELA trades between ports in the Frat East and Mediterranean. She is on a west bound voyage having called at Singapore and various Chinese ports prior to the fire. The vessel, a VLOC, with twenty-four crew, including eight South Korean and sixteen Filipinos, was in waters near Uruguay after departing Sepetiba, Brazil on March 26, when she issued a distress signal on Friday evening. One of the crew sent a message to the shipowner saying that the vessel was taking on water and contact was lost shortly afterwards. The local authorities and Uruguayan navy initiated a investigation and started a large-scale search and rescue operation, involving commercial vessels near the site of the alleged incident. The operation was announced early Saturday, covering a large area around the last known position of the vessel. Later during the day, there was official information that two lifeboats believed to be from the missing vessel were found with efforts now under way to safely rescue the vessel’s crew members. Two Filipino crew members were later reported rescued with the search continuing for the remaining crew.
