Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel MOUNT ATHOS (4105gt built 1986) has suffered and engine breakdown 500 miles south of Las Palmas.

The general cargo vessel is carrying a cargo of sugar to Leixoes. She left her load port, Matadi, on 7th April 2010.

Salvage services are being rendered to the vessel by Tsavliris Salvage on LOF terms. It is anticipated that the vessel will be towed to the nearest suitable port.

It is likely that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
