Date: 4th April 2010    Type: Collision and General Average     Voyage: Far East / Mediterranean Sea / Black Sea

Reports have been received that German flag vessel CMA CGM VERLAINE (72760gt built 2001) colliding with Maltese flag cargo ship ODESSA STAR (20569gt built 2000) off Turkey earlier this month.

As a result of the incident, CMA CGM VERLAINE suffered severe structural damage and took on a list. Some of her cargo was also damaged.

The owners of CMA CGM VERLAINE have declared general average and the usual average guarantees and bonds must be provided by cargo insurers and owners before the cargo can be delivered.

At present, the general average claim is estimated to be about 10% of cargo values. All of the cargo on board is being transhipped to destination.

CMA CGM VERLAINE operates between ports in the Far East, Mediterranean and the Black Sea. She will also have on board transhipment cargo for numerous other destinations.
