Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MAERSK MIAMI (56248gt 1994 built) suffered an engine room fire approximately 50 miles off the coast of Goa, India, on the 27th March 2010.

No crew member was injured but, as a precaution, the crew was transferred to two other vessels which were in the vicinity. The vessel was then towed in to port.

General Average has been declaed by the Shipowners. It is likely that the owners and insurers of the cargo on board will have to provide general average security.
