Date: 19th September 2016    Type: Fire  Voyage: Kaohsiung to Hong Kong  

Reports have been received that Singaporean flag vessel WAN HAN 307 (25,836gt, built 2002) suffered an explosion and fire on board off Hong Kong on 19th September 2016.

The fire originated in a cargo hold. It is understood that some crew members may have been injured in attempts to fire the fire.

Various resources were used to attempt to extinguish the fire. There are conflicting reports concerning whether the fire is now out.

WAN HAI 307 operates between Taiwan and ports in China. At the time of the incident the vessel was on a voyage from Kaohsiung to Hong Kong. She is also likely to be carrying cargoes to and from other ports.

As well as cargo damage being suffered, it is possible that general average will be declared.
