Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel SPARNA (31,385gt, built 2006) ran aground in the early hours of this morning on the Columbia River, US.

The bulk carrier had sailed from Portland yesterday destined for Otaru, Japan. She has on board a cargo of grain.

Two tugs are on the scene in order to provide assistance and a helicopter survey is planned. There have been no reports of any spillage. However, booms have been deployed as a precaution.
