Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel MOL EXPRESS (53,822gt, built 2003) ran aground in shallow waters in Tateyama Harbour, Chiba, on 11th January 2015.
Salvors are assisting the vessel, which is on charter to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines. Reportedly the vessel was attempting to anchor to effect engine repairs when the accident occurred.
MOL Express is on a voyage from Oakland to Tokyo, but will be carrying cargoes from and to various different ports.
It is possible that claims for salvage and/or general average will be made against cargo owners/insurers as a result of this incident
