Date: 25th August 2013    Type: Collision/Grounding/Water Ingress    Voyage: Uruguay/Argentina and Argentina/Netherlands

Reports have been received that Paraguay flag vessel PLATA FEEDER ( 2,563gt, built 1979) was in collision with Liberia flag vessel THISSEAS (41,101gt, built 2012) on 25th August.

The accident occurred on the Parana River after the containership PLATA FEEDER reportedly suffered steering gear problems.

As a result of the accident PLATA FEEDER ran aground. The vessel has suffered water ingress and some containers on board are damaged. THISSEAS suffered damage but above the water line.

PLATA FEEDER is a local vessel which trades between Argentina and Uruguay although it is possible that she will be carrying transhipment cargoes to and from different destinations.

THISSEAS is understood to be on a voyage to Rotterdam having sailed from Rosario on 20th August.
