Latest reports suggest that the vessel has broken in two and is partly submerged.

Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel SMART (77,240gt, built 1996) ran aground off Richards Bay yesterday.
The crew were rescued by a helicopter. Tugs will attempt to refloat the casualty. It is possible that salvage and general average will be claimed against cargo insurers
as a result.
The bulk carrier is on a voyage from South Africa to Fangcheng in China carrying a cargo of coal.
