Reports have been received that Chinese flag vessel LE SHAN (15,542gt built 1999) ran aground on a rocky shelf outside Tema on 20th January 2012.
Despite efforts to refloat the vessel she remains aground. Her cargo is trucks, iron rods and general cargo for discharge in Ghana.
We understand that the ship’s master did not follow an instruction to embark a pilot and the vessel missed the channel into the port.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
