Reports have been received that Singapore flag vessel SIMA SAMAN (15,995gt built 2006) has run aground in the Malacca Strait.
We understand that professional salvors Smit have been engaged to refloat the casualty. The operation is being undertaken on an LOF salvage contract.
SIMA SAMAN trades between ports in Malaysia and Indonesia. She is likely to also carry transhipment cargoes to and from other parts of the world.
It is likely that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
