Reports have been received that Dutch flag vessel DINTELBORG (6235gt built 1999) has suffered a fire on her bridge and is disabled off Virginia.
The general cargo vessel is currently being assisted by the US Coast Guard. We understand that a tug is also being sent to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established. No injuries have been reported but the ship has been left without power in quite heavy seas.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
