Reports have been received that Indonesian flag vessel MARA (39836gt built 1989) has suffered a fire in her engine room yesterday. Her crew members are safe.
The bulk carrier reported the problem when she was approximately 60 miles south west of Manila. Other vessels in the vicinity were asked to assist.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
