Date: 8th July 2010     Type: Grounded     Voyage: South Korea to China

Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel FPMC 23 (30,200gt built 2010) ran aground at Zhu Jiang Kou on 8th July.

The tanker, which sailed from Ulsan on 5th July, is understood to have suffered water ingress into ballast tanks. It is possible that her forward cargo tanks are also damaged.

The vessel was refloated the following day and later towed to an anchorage. A rescue vessel is in attendance.

It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
