Date: 21st June 2010     Type: Collision     Voyage: China/Taiwan

Reports have been received that Chinese flag vessel HUA HANG 3 (6392gt built 2007) collided with another cargo vessel shortly after leaving Xiamen earlier this week.

No injuries have been reported although both vessels sustained damage. HUA HANG 3 suffered water ingress which was reportedly brought under control by a rescue team.

The other vessel, a bulk carrier whose name has not been reported, also suffered damage to her hull and was escorted to a safe anchorage.

HUA HANG 3 is a container vessel that trades between ports in China and Taiwan. She was last reported sailing from Xiamen on 21st June. As well as cargoes for Taiwan, she is also likely to have transhipment cargoes on board for other destinations.

It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
