Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel HANJIN SAO PAOLO (16472gt built 2008) ran aground off the west coast of Korea on 23rd April 2010.
The vessel’s crew have been rescued. Craft have been sent to the grounding site in order to try to prevent pollution.
The container ship operates between China, Korea, Philippines and Indonesia. It is likely that she also has on board transhipment cargoes for other countries.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
