Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel XIN LOS ANGELES (108069gt built 2006) has suffered a fire on board today whilst off the coast of Spain.
The fire is understood to have originated in the ship’s number 8 hold. The carbon dioxide extinguishing system was activated by the crew but this has not put out the fire.
The containership operates on an east bound route from the Far East to Europe, although she will have transhipment cargo on board for various destinations around the world.
The vessel is understood to have sailed from Shanghai on 17th November. She was originally destined for Felixstowe and then Zeebrugge and Rotterdam.
