Date: 10.06.09     Type: Engine Damage – Salvage     Voyage: UAE/Somalia

Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel ALKISTIS (6127gt built 1982) is being towed by salvage tug Ocean Wonder towards Dubai.

The general cargo ship was on a voyage from UAE towards Somalia when she suffered an engine breakdown. The tug was sent from Dubai to assist on Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF) terms.

A salvage claim will be brought against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board. This will require the provision of salvage security by a guarantor acceptable to Lloyd’s of London.

In addition to the salvage claim, it is also possible that general average will be declared. This will also require the provision of security by cargo insurers.
